Thanks for the kick in the pants. I know that there are many times that I see people, not for the who they are or even who they could be, but rather the way that I think they should be.
It is definitely a humbling experience when I come to the end of myself, my pride and my ambitions and instead seek what is the better thing for others. For me, it is something that I must deal with on a daily, perhaps hourly, basis.
It’s always my pleasure to kick you in the pants Dave. 😀
I think Lee, that often, and I’m speaking as someone that doesn’t know you, that rather than looking at a ‘ fail ‘ as you call it and what am I learning from it, we should approach it as what is God trying to teach me through this? That you should go to Home Depot next time ( smile ) perhaps, but just think if you had – you wouldn’t have had this moment of reflection and instruction and you wouldn’t have had the benefit of teaching others through your video here. My point, simply, is that it’s all part of His plan.
Thanks Andy!
It’s hard to admit when we’ve wronged someone else and it takes humility to admit it in a public way. Thank you for sharing your struggle and using it as a teachable moment. I grew-up in the church and I know pastors are forgiven sinners like the rest of us, so I really appreciate your honesty.
Thanks Jennifer. I’m always trying to “fail forward”.
Thanks for being transparent. At this time in my life I can identify with your visitor. Where I work, I don’t have a “postion” so when I say something it is more often than not ignored because I am not a “decision” maker. So have felt as your friend did. I do like Andy’s thought about this being a lesson “brought to you by God” to learn from and pass along to others. We need to “value” as you said the person for who they are. I try to remember that Jesus died for them the same time He died for me and that makes them important.
Love you Brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said! In my ministry to women, one of the saddest things I hear is of this feeling of being invisible. As a former staff member of my church I am guilty of walking past people or blowing them off, often because I was in a rush to do important “ministry” work. Ironically, the people I walked by were the ones who needed me most. We all have a deep longing to be known and seen by others. The lesson you learned will bless many people. Thanks for sharing!
I relate completely. I have been on both sides of the situation that you have described.
This past 2 years have been really rough for our family as we have tried to find a church family (community) to be a part of. It has been eye opening and weird all at the same time.
I think that, as Christian’s, we have to begin to love people…period. Jesus calls us to love people as He has loved us. We are called to be His fruit…so that people who are far from God can experience Psalms 34:8 — “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
(Psalms 34:8 ESV) I mean if you were at a restaurant that served sour food you wouldn’t go back. I think the same applies for churches also.
Thanks for your candidness and I look forward to following you in the blogosphere…
Thanks Will! Many blessings on your search for a church home!
Thank you…we found one that I think will work for us. We are going to trust the Lord and enjoy the journey…less stress that way.
Lee, so many times people get lost in the shuffle. I noticed a lady at our church the other day and night of worship and went to pray with her. She told me that she was out having surgery for a few weeks and nobody noticed. Nobody came to visit, and nobody really cared. That broke my heart because I truly did care. However, this is an example of what you said about not being noticed. I know I have to do a better job at noticing. Thanks for the reminder.
Lee, this was a great transparent testimony of God’s conviction to his people. One thing I’ve learned as I have done ministry in the inner city is that sometimes the ones we blow off are the ones that bring a blessing with them. I’ve screwed up plenty of times but I’m learning that it could have been me begging for money or assistance so I’m learning to give my way through my pride and thinking I’m better than anyone. Lee keep doing great things in the kingdom.
Thanks Andre! Likewise!
