Another edition of Tozer Tuesdays, prayers from his book The Pursuit of God They have profoundly impacted me and I hope they challenge and move you as you pray them too.
O God, be Thou exalted over my possessions. Nothing of earth’s treasures shall seem dear unto me if only Thou art glorified in my life. Be Thou exalted over my friendships. I am determined that Thou shalt be above all, though I must stand deserted and alone in the midst of the earth. Be Thou exalted over my comforts. Though it mean the loss of bodily comforts and the carrying of heavy crosses, I shall keep my vow made this day before Thee. Be Thou exalted over my reputation. Make me ambitious to please Thee even if as a result I must sink into obscurity and my name be forgotten as a dream. Rise, O Lord, into Thy proper place of honor, above my ambitions, above my likes and dislikes, above my family, my health and even my life itself. Let me sink that Thou mayest rise above. Ride forth upon me as Thou didst ride into Jerusalem mounted upon the humble little beast, a colt, the foal of an ass, and let me hear the children cry to Thee, “Hosanna in the highest.”
Amen

I pray that I will never cease to feel the wonder that I feel right now at how God sends us just what we need when we need it. I have been praying a similar prayer for myself lately. One not quite so eloquently expressed. It was a delight to read this one. Thank you for posting it and daring others to pray it as well.
Thanks Nancy. God bless you!
Thank you Lee. He always does. God’s blessings on you and your family.
Hey Lee, I saw a link about some challenging prayer on your FaceBook post and traced it down here. It is lovely and adorable. Yes, such prayers are not be to be prayed lightly. It is dangerous but glorious; it destroys self and gives life to the spirit! I love it.
Oh God, may self die completely in me so that Christ can truly live in this earthen vessel. Amen.
Amen!
Sometimes I tend to view prayers like this one as a goal rather than something I have already attained. (Well maybe some of it in small portions)
And a glorious goal indeed!
Yes David, God bless you for that comment; as much as it is a goal, we need to measure ourselves with the ideals of the goal – daily. Examine ourselves on what we have achieved daily.
You and I know that if I set myself a goal in January to become a good swimmer by December, it is not enough to talk about it, visit a swimming pool and not get my trunks and jump in the water!
There must be a plan. A deliberate plan to achieve those goals and anything and everything that stands in the way must be made to bow/conform to it. That is the good fight of faith.
There is too much confession and less (or no) profession in the body of Christ. Even if it will take us a decade, we must confess and work, James says, “Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” James 2:14-26.
