I came across this quote by Albert Einstein the other day and it really hit me…
“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He who can no longer wonder or stand rapt in awe is as good as dead, a snuffed out candle.”
Wow! How much time have I spent “as good as dead”? I spend so much time maintaining my life that I hardly take time to appreciate the mysterious, to get lost in art, or simply be amazed at our awesome God.
What about you? Have you lost your wonder? How can we get it back if we lose it? Please let me know what you think in the comments below.
In some ways Lee we take God for granted. It’s a given that we wake up in the morning, get our coffee, start our days, work hard, or do whatever it is that we do. We give our thanks but rarely give thought to the wonder of it all. God is working right now. In you and me and everyone you know in everything they’re doing, in every thought on their minds, in every path they cross. It’s all working for His Glory. The wonder gets lost in our activities sometimes but comes back again when we read a quote from Einstein. Just think – right now someone is coming to Christ. Right now the order of events in someone’s life by a word they say, by something they’ve done, perhaps 50 years ago has influenced someone to make a decision. That decision, and the actions that follow will affect someone, and someone else, and someone else, and someone else. All through time, all leading up to this point, and will affect, again, someone in the future. God is directing it all. How? I have no idea. But the God that’s working in us right now, leading me to type these thoughts – knows everything we’ve ever done and will ever do. Now multiply that by billions and billions of people. Unbelievalbe. I was thinking about Job chapters 38-42 today and how I would quake in front of God and know that those things, Too wonderful for me and that which I did not know. That friend is the key. The God of the universe has saved me. A speck of dust compared to Him but He loves me enough to call me through His Son Jesus Christ and I’ve heard His Voice. Unfathomable. Amazing. Mysterious, and a complete wonder.
Your’s in Christ.
Great perspective Ty! Thanks for sharing them!
A few years ago I read a great book called ‘Dangerous Wonder’. It was an interesting read about the sometimes scary, many times dangerous, and always adventurous endeavor that is following Christ. This post brought that book back to mind.
Just recently I was put in a situation that only a few years back would have been the end of me. Now I have the strength and the faith to go forward. I picture it kinda like cliff diving: You get close to the edge and can tumble in any moment, but doing so causes you to fall against the cliff, getting broken and bruised. It is only by knowing who you (and your God) are and JUMPING that you reach the water.
That’s what I love about God. There is always that ‘out there’ that I know He is calling me to, but not always sure of what it is. But when I get there, you find more of who He is and more of who I am. And then He calls me out into the unknown again.
Following too closely is dangerous, but it’s the safest place to be.
It seems He only shows us what we need to know. It’s so true that it’s the safest place to be!
