I have a quick question for you.
If your church only did one thing really well, what would you want that thing to be?
Even if everything else really stunk, you’d still stay because this one thing was done superbly.
Would it be the worship? How about the speaking/ministry? What if the children’s ministry was off the hook but everything else was a turd? What if everything was lame but they did a fantastic job of making you feel welcome?
What would be that one thing for you? Let me know!
OK go.

Genuiune, biblical fellowship (encouragement and discpline included).
I could pick 1 thing. But my “thing” would most likely not be the same as many other people. So, if everything else blows, but my thing, then you will attract a bunch of people like me. Not a body.
But my 1 thing would be the music aspect of worship.
My one thing is that people feel welcomed and comfortable and able to be themselves. I’m not that worried about feeling welcome myself, being introverted by nature. I don’t want to be catered to, but I’m bothered if people say they didn’t feel welcome.
I love these pictures, beaucse through them I see LOVE,HOPE, TRUTH and EVERLASTING LIFE WITH MY SAVIOR. The pictures of his CRUCIFICTION tells me that if he could endour all the pain and humiliation, then so can I. You are not worshiping the pics, but seeing what our LORD went through for all of us. We were made in HIS IMAGE and COLOR HAS NO MEANING IN HIS EYES. I am Native American and in our language that He gave us, HE is Wanka Tanka, The Great Spirit, Our Creator. All he wants EVERYONE to do is LOVE ONE ANOTHER and TELL OTHERS ABOUT HIM. Thank you Great Spirit for your Unmerciful Treatment, I am waiting for you to return. God Bless Everyone.
Preach the Gospel. Accurately. Straight from God’s Word, with no sugarcoating, no worrying about offending anyone.
Romans 10:14-15 – “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Evangelism, Disciple-making, Missions…whatever you wish to call it is absolutely paramount.
I’d definitely ditto Amy… accurate and useful preaching of God’s Word. Many other things are desirable, but I think that’s the most essential.
I joined my new church in March 2009 for this main reason -> We can sense a very strong presence of The Holy Spirit everytime. That is the most important to me.
Just to add on: our worship team’s singing voice are so average. sometimes they play the music instruments fast or too slow, but The Holy Spirit
moves us still.
The before & after prayers, & during the pastors’ teachings, The Holy Spirit is working.
My church has one of the greatest worshipers in the world, it’s the reason why The Holy Spirit dwells among us.
I love my church. (PS: not everybody. Sshh. Haha.)
I agree with Tommy 100%. If we could only do one thing well it would have to be make disciples. If that’s not it then what is the point of everything else? If the last words of Jesus to His disciples were to go and make more disciples then it must be pretty important…
I currently do not attend church, however, I attend religiously (pun intended) two different fellowship meetings.
I think what I liked the most in previous churches I attended was a worship where the Presence of God was evident and relevant Bible teaching. Either one would be important to me, but I’d really like to have my cake and eat it, too.
Showing Gods grace to all those who enter the doors of our church as well as our lives in the community as we are still the church away from the church
my one thing would be ‘living the gospel’, you could sing, preach and teach well, but it’s effectively living the gospel that will compel people to come to Jesus.
Worship ministry (from a youth pastor)
My one thing would be children’s ministry. What? 90% of people who come to the Lord do so as children? So, if we could get a real children’s ministry that sets up the foundation – teaches children to be disciples of Christ – has them learn to hear and live by the voice and the Spirit of God – if we could do this, all the other stuff would just fall into place – you’d have excellent worship – you’d have that feeling of being welcome – you’d have obedience and such – all that would fall into place. You would naturally (or I guess in this case, supernaturally) attract nonbelievers. It would just happen. The truth is, statistically, shotty children’s ministry is usually in the top 3 reasons that people don’t stay at a church. People like Hitler and the Taliban and other people who tried to start movements and change the world know the goal – train them when they are young and you have them for life. Why can’t we get it? And the amazing thing is that our calling – our desire for them- is a desire of hope (unlike the obvious destructive purposes of Hitler and the Taliban) and love. Man, that’s what I would want our church to be know for – a church that has a ministry that is raising up and equipping disciples.
Many churches place themselves between the people and Christ. They set themselves up as idols. They make up rules that contradict the Bible and then condemn people for not following their rules. I am amazed at how many churches that I have attended where Christ is never even mentioned during the services. Churches that have fallen away from Christ should humble themselves as equals before Christ and abolish all systems that try to control congregations aside from Christ. Preachers and elders that set themselves up between Christ and Christ’s church are going to regret it.
Authentic relationship. People really caring about each other and being involved in each others lives. I’m probably being influenced by the current state of my life, though.
I take it that it’s been a challenge to find that in Germany. You guys are in our prayers.
Wow, that’s easy….LOVE.
To be like Christ! That pretty much covers it all from sacrificial love to teaching the gospel, discipleship, worship, prayer and so on.
Prayer and loving everyone, not just people your comfortable with 🙂
Yes! Matthew 21:13 “a house of prayer”.
The Preeminence of Christ
this is what would bring me back :
Understanding of Preeminence and simplicity of Christ.
